A.k.a. Ulysses Johnson III P.D.J.
"Ulysses", or Ulysses Johnson III, is a saxophonist from Chicago IL, known to the dance music community for his Large Records hit "I'm Leaving You" (1993). Written and produced by his childhood friend Lil' John Coleman, it was originally just a jazzy House track with Ulysses' saxophone riffs, until John wrote a single verse of lyrics to the groove, and asked Ulysses to "sing" over the track. What came out of his mouth was a soulful yet raspy tone, reminiscent of Colonel Abrams or the late Teddy Pendergrass! But the biggest credit goes to the legendary Louie Vega, who personally broke the track with an acetate copy given to him by Lil' John (the ONLY copy!) that he played at the Sound Factory Bar (NYC) and everywhere else... and the rest is history :-)
