Currently on live hiatus and formerly based in Hobart, Tasmania, Untermorast makes improvised transcendental interstellar space drone. Untermorast is Matt Warren and Tim Panaretos. Matt creates layers of sound with vocalisations and effects pedals, percussive noises and occasionally keyboards. Tim plays electric and acoustic bouzoukis, extended with various objects and usually through pedals and/or laptop. He also plays occasional keyboards. Untermorast started making noise in 2009 with lots of repetitive looping making for a dense, bleak, lumbering affair. A sense of space and ritualism has since crept into the sound, not surprising seeing as both love the Kraut. Aside from the aforementioned Germans, influences include all things droning, blackened, doomic, industrial, minimal, space, psych, dark ambient, etc, etc.
