A.k.a. Gordon Vincent Thompson
Canadian songwriter and publisher. He started the Thompson Publishing Company in Toronto in 1909 which was purchased by Leo Feist Ltd. in 1919 and became the Canadian branch of the company (which Thompson would manage until 1932). During WWI he found success in the U.S. writing war-themed songs for Leo Feist but as a Canadian he did not qualify for mechanical rights so he went back to Canada and in 1919 he formed the Authors and Composers Association of Canada. After 5 years of lobbying, he was able to get Canadian copyright law changed to the benefit of Canadian songwriters. b. August 9, 1888 in Humberstone, Ontario d. May 12, 1965 in Toronto , Ontario
