Band,
Rock
Created in Lille (Fr) in 2011, VI! VI! VI! started as a trio with a taste for experimentation in loudness. Common ground of several multi-instrumentalists with already established paths, (Maxime Manac'h plays with the pioneering krautrock outfit FAUST since 2010, Sylvain Delanoé played in locally influent industrial metal bands and is currently a regular collaborator in iconic cyberpunk band PUNISH YOURSELF, and Guillaume Dubreu worked with STPO and CHAUSSE-TRAPPE). By adding uncommon instruments (hurdy-gurdy, santour, jackhammer, disc grinder and various industrial tools and scrap metals), the band seek to expand their labyrinthic style of mixed psych rock, industrial music and musique concrète with nuances of kaleidoscopic sound textures. As a live act, they shared the bill across northern France and Belgium with, among others, CHILD ABUSE, TERMINAL CHEESECAKE, THE COSMIC DEAD, OISEAU-TEMPETE, CHAUSSE TRAPPE and DIE! DIE! DIE! In 2014, an emergency filled first LP, simply titled "VI! VI! VI!" and mastered by Amaury Cambuzat (ULAN BATOR, FAUST) was released by Tandori Records, in association with Acid Cobra, Bargraphe Records and Etienne Disqs. Aiming at widening their array of influences, the trio soon became a quintet with the addition of jazz drummer Ciro Martin and musically hyperactive bassist Xavier Poittevin. This new formula gave birth to a second LP, "II" (to be released in 2019) which demonstrates a large amount of rich sound textures. After being handpicked to be part of the 2018 roster of the "Tour de Chauffe" program for northern French local bands and switching their four-stringer for drone-rooted bassist Maxime De Waegenaere, the band wanted to push the enveloppe further by collaborating with legendary saxophonist Geoff Leigh (whose extensive discography includes collaborations with HENRY COW, MIKE OLDFIELD, STEVEN WILSON, FAUST and ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE) for a third LP that is currently a work in progress.
