Band,
Rock
Vangouw was founded by ex-Martyr vocalist Gérard Vergouw in the summer of ’88 and worked out a demo tape together with guitarist Gordon Groothedde. A 2-track demo tape with 2 tracks: 'Simonai' and 'Need a Lot of Love'. Gérard and Gordon by now had put a band together. This cooperation resulted in lots of tours and gigs. It’s melodic rock songs they play with double vocal lines. And on stage Gérard shows he’s a true entertainer with a great voice. Then Gérard sents the tape to Veronica (national TV station) for a TV program called ‘Muziekland Sterrenjacht’ (Star search). The bands gets invited and have to do an audition with 40 other bands. As the band had no bass player at that time they asked Toine van der Linden to fill in. The band ends up in the final 10 and were invited to play on the radio. The band wins that contest too and appeared soon after that on TV, winning the whole contest which gained a lot publicity for the band. A record deal would be obvious now, but in the next 2 years no record company shows interest. In 1990 finally Red Bullet is showing interest. The band started to work with producer John Sonneveld (Sleez Beez, Golden Earring) on a demo. It keeps the band busy for the years to come, but no Cd single (that was the plan) is released. Reason was there were problems what musical direction the band had to go to. The producer/label wanted more pop rock while the band wanted to stay on the heavy side. Finally producer John Sonneveld choose 3 songs, but wants to change a lot. The band is not amused and it leads to even more frustrations and finally results that in ’92 that the band quits. Gérard joined the Martyr reunion in 2001 and did a few gigs with them, but moved recently to Colombia. He is a lawyer/attorney nowadays. Gordon is doing very well as a producer/ songwriter.
