Vanja Muhovic presents not only urban traditional music from Bosnia and Herzegovina but also the ethno music from all across the Balkans, with an emphasis on sevdalinka. After a singing break during his musical and ethno-musicological studies, Vanja Muhovic decides to go back to music, his deepest passion. With the help of his colleagues from the Music Academy, Vanja starts to settle an ambitious artistic plan along with other young musicians who have been playing and working with them in several other occasions. Vanja made the song selection and the pianist Neven Tunjic - composer of classical music - cooperated with him and created the arrangements for several songs. Vanja Muhovic had his first debut on Bosnian music scene in October 2009, when he recorded his first two singles with the band "Divanhana": Zaplakala Šecer Ðula and Razbolje se sultan Sulejmane. Most of the songs performed by Vanja Muhovic are well-known among the fans of the popular and traditional music. These traditional songs are performed in new arrangements, in which the significant influence of popular, jazz, and classical music of the 20th century is easily recognizable. The debut CD "Dert" is the result of the ethno-musicological research which resulted in discovering and presenting urban traditional songs. Some of the songs on the CD were never recorded or just noted within few ethnomusicological researches. In this way, those songs will not only become more popular, but preserved as a valuable tradional and folkloric material from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Balkans. Vanja Muhovic is also determined to increase the popularity of the „saz“, a traditional instrument which people used to accompany sevdalinke with. He performed with a classical, jazz and world music musicians from the Balkans and Europe such as jazz orchestra Jazzwerkstatt Graz, traditional singer Natasa Mirkovic, accordionist Merima Kljuco, etc. Vanja is currently working with international trio of musicians. Michael Lagger and Valentn Czihak, the jazz musicians from Graz/Austria and with Almir Meskovic (accordionist), Bosnian who lives in Oslo/Norway.
