Singer of Folk
A.k.a. Васа Буквић
Influential Serbian tamburitza player and singer. Settling in Chicago, Bukvich popularized Serbian folk music, especially kolos, in the USA during the 1910s and 1920s. From 1912, he and his brother Mirko Bukvich performed with the "Banat" Orchestra. Between 1916 and 1917, he made more than two dozen recordings for Columbia and Victor. In 1924, he also recorded for a sublabel of the Starr Piano Co. in Richmond, Indiana, the "Jugoslavia Jewelry and Phonograph Co." In 2000, Bukvich was inducted into the Tamburitza Association of America Hall of Fame.
