Rock
In the late 70s, Luís Gil Bettencourt together with his brothers Roberto Bettencourt (bass guitar) and Nuno Bettencourt (later Extreme guitarrist) formed the band Alien, whose name was later changed to Viking, a progressive rock band that won one of the most important places in the musical scene of Boston. José Ernesto Barros and Kenny Marcou were also part of the band. Nuno had originally been the drummer, but Luís taught him to play the guitar. In 1984 the group split up and Luís Bettencourt returned to Portugal where he recorded his first solo album "Empty Space" (1985).
