A.k.a. José Vinicio Adames Piñero

(Barquisimeto, Lara, March 1, 1927 - Azores Islands, Portugal, September 3, 1976) was a Venezuelan choir and orchestra musician and conductor. He entered the Academy of Music Santa Cecilia, where he studied piano and vocalization. In the Bachillerato (1948) he founded the Conjunto Conjunto Lisandro Alvarado. After graduating, he traveled to Caracas to study dentistry at the Central University of Venezuela, where he became a soloist of the University Orfeón. The first concert of this prestigious Orfeón (second stage) was directed by Adames on August 14, 1958. Along with his studies, he worked with the Orfeón Miranda de Los Teques, with which he performed in 30 concerts. He also created the choir of the Eulalia Buroz Normal School in Los Teques. In 1965, he managed to have the University Choir participate in the First World Festival of University Choirs, held at Lincoln Center in New York. Two years later, the North American Government gave him a scholarship to do a course of direction with Robert Shaw in the University of Oakland, Michigan. He directed the Chamber Orchestra of the Central University of Venezuela, the Chamber Orchestra of the University of Carabobo, the Symphony Orchestra of Panama, the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra of Caracas, the Shell Choir, the Social Security Choir, of the Industrial School , of the Antonio José de Sucre Institute and the Metropolitan Choral Group that he founded in 1969. The Choir of the Central Bank of Venezuela, which later received the name of Orfeón Vinicio Adames, was also in charge. With this group he recorded an album of Venezuelan folk and folk music in 1973. He died on September 3, 1976, along with the members of the University Orfeón, when the plane in which they were traveling to Barcelona to perform a performance crashed at Lajes Airport, in the Azores Islands. After his death, various choirs were created and renamed in his honor. A Miranda State park bears his name.
