A.k.a. Karsten John, Stefan Böhmer
Have you ever heard of the Vinyl Vibes? If not, I’m sure you don’t live in Cologne (Germany), or even near it. Or perhaps you’re not aware about its Jazz, Rare Grooves & Broken Beats scene, that’s for sure. For the last six and a half years, Karsten John has been the resident of this Vinyl Vibes party for an oscillating public between five hundred and one thousand people. Pretty impressive for a nation that has so traditional techno and trance scenes. His reputation since mid 1998 granted the presence of well-known guests such as Jazzanova, Mo'Horizons or Kyoto Jazz Massive: Karsten became quickly one of the references of this kind of music atmosphere based on Soul, Jazz and Broken Beats, which gave him the opportunity to play on several clubs in Europe, such as Jazzrooms (Brighton), Velure (Dublin), Crate Soul Pressure (Budapest), Soulsugar (Vienna), Into Somethin (Munich) and the like. One of the most impressive aspects is that Karsten does not distinguish the old tunes from the new ones on his repertoire, as long as they contain the vibe. His fantastic record collection is not to be underestimated: there are rumors of credits on several compilations (as mentioned on his own website) about them and their influence on many other DJs researches. His supporters and all the Nu Jazz, Broken Beats and Rare Groove fans commemorated his weekly Monday night radio station at www.monofunk.net. If you never had the chance to listen his sets on the web, or couldn’t be at Colony, Dublin, Budapest or whatever, you should try his Vinyl Vibes sessions on the web. Focused on his funk, soul, latin rhythms, jazz from the end of 60s & beginning of 70s, rare grooves, broken beats and the futuristic fusion of Jazz-electronic, Karsten will play a total quality repertory, wherever he will be. Don’t miss it! --Written by Alain Patrick, for beatz.com.br–-
