American jazz bassist (from the swing-era). Born : April 21, 1914 in Hutchinson, Kansas. Died : December 03 (or) 02, 1978 in Los Angeles, California. Walt played with the bands of Joe Haymes, Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey, Isham Jones, Ben Pollack, Russ Morgan, Bob Crosby, Woody Herman, Red Nichols and others. He was member of the founding co-operative for Woody Herman And His Orchestra, which was founded without having a backer.
