born: New Orleans, La., c. 1905 died: Chicago, Ill., 26 february 1967 studied music, but was often found in barrelhouse and jazz bands. Went to New York and recorded there under his own name and with King Oliver, Luis Russell, Fess Williams, and Fats Waller (1929-30).
