Wataru Sato - saxophonist Wataru Sato was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1975. He began his studies at the University of Cincinnati - College Conservatory of Music (UC-CCM) in 1994. While he was a student at the University, he won the UC-CCM Concerto Competition twice and performed with the Wind Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1996 Mr. Sato won third prize in the North American Saxophone Alliance Classical Saxophone Competition. Wataru Sato was a member of UC-CCM Contemporary-Music Ensemble and went on the tour with them in 1988. In that same year he entered the Graduate School of Northwestern University and in 1999 he performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra as the winner of the Concerto Competition. Mr. Sato studied under Shinichrio Hikosaka, Nobuya Sugawa, Rick VanMater, Frederic Hemke and Masato Kumoi. He performed on the CD “The Orpheus Oracle” (Vienna Modern Masters 3046) as a concerto soloist.
