A.k.a. Virgil Wayne Cross
Wayne Cross was born on September 12, 1939 (as the son of Lewis Floyce Cross and Sally Luella Davis Cross) and died in March 25, 1993. Mr. Cross was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Wayne's father and several of his siblings played the guitar and other musical instruments, or loved to sing. In the 1940's and 50's, they sometimes played at local dances in Cardwell on Saturday nights for fifty cents to help pay for groceries. The family was especially fond of gospel music, and made an gospel album "The Cross Family Quartet". Virgil was a good enough guitar player and singer that he went to Nashville and played at Ernest Tubb's Record shop under the name Wayne Cross, he was offered gigs playing around in Nashville and probably could have made a country music album, but his wife told him it was music or her. He returned to Cardwell. Wayne sadly never released a record ever after.
