Pop, Folk and World
At the heart of London, Ontario Canada’s indie-pop-folk-rock scene, Westminster Park is a multi-instrumental group comprised of husband and wife lead singers Colleen and Steve Murphy. Friends and relatives have joined on each album release, with recent additions to the live and recording group including Melissa Parrott (Drums, Flute, Harmonica, Vocals) and Steve Presant (Bass). Each album plays like a mix-tape offering nostalgic folk songs, delicate melodies and a dash of rock and roll for good measure. The lyrics are deeply personal yet accessible: as one reviewer noted, “the listener can feel like an aural voyeur”. Since reforming, Westminster Park has been one of London’s most prolific bands and have just released a 5-song holiday themed EP for 2016, titled “New Years,” on their own Snap Crackle Pops Records label. The release has received positive reviews, charted on local radio and the video for the title track “New Years” was featured on CBC Newsworld.
