Album DE 2000 on WERGO label
Classical (Contemporary)
The WERGO CD combines five slender orchestral works by Wilhelm Killmayer. In the foreword to his first Symphony the composer writes: "Silence frees us; it helps us to listen to ourselves. Music often has the effect of allowing us to forget ourselves, but can also make us more aware of our own being." His Symphony No. 2 has the subtitle Ricordanze [remembrances]. Beyond our knowledge and will, our memory retains sensual experiences: a sound, a color, or a gesture which our consciousness has lost. Nachtgedanken [Night Thoughts] - Under the bell of night, time passes, which we cannot measure by any light, only through the recollection of the events that took place in time during the day. La joie de vivre [The Joy of Living] came from the inspiration and request of the Berlin Haydn Ensemble, which is comprised of players from the Berlin Philharmonic and led by Hansjörg Schellenberger. The ensemble uses the original instrumentation of the early Haydn symphonies: six violins, one viola, one cello, one contrabass, two oboes, one bassoon, and two horns.
