William Grant Still

William Grant Still (May 11, 1895 – December 3, 1978) was an African-American classical composer who wrote more than 150 compositions; his works were performed internationally by major orchestras as well as in the United States. Born in Mississippi, he grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas, and learned to play seven instruments. He attended Wilberforce University and Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
