Musician / Composer of Jazz
Will Jarvis Toronto-born Will Jarvis is a busy freelance bassist, composer and educator. Will is a graduate of the Humber College Bachelor/TRU music program and holds a Master of Arts degree in composition from York University in Toronto. Over his thirty-year career Will has gained a reputation as a very versatile player and is equally comfortable playing jazz, rhythm and blues, funk, jazz-fusion as well as Brazilian and Cuban music. Will has had the pleasure of performing live with Latin-jazz artists Tito Puente, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Paquito D’Rivera, Hilton Ruiz, Hilario Duran, Luis Conte and Dave Valentin, as well as drum icon Steve Gadd. Will has backed up such international artists as Del Shannon, Bob Newhart and Rich Little and has also worked with many Toronto-area artists including David Clayton-Thomas, Bruce Cassidy’s Hotfoot Orchestra, The Code, Jackie Richardson and Carlos Del Junco. Music theatre credits include Toronto productions of Peter Pan, 9 To 5: the Musical and Jersey Boys, among others. These days you can find Will performing regularly with Manteca, Trevor Dick Band, Paul DeLong’s "Bucket of Fish Orchestra," and Memo Acevedo’s "Building Bridges Band." As an educator, Will has been teaching at the college and university level for more than twenty-five years and is currently on the music faculty at both Humber College and Mohawk College with previous teaching positions at York University and McMaster University. Will recently released his debut recording as a leader entitled, “Con Gracias.” The recording features a collection of all original Latin-Jazz compositions based on an array of contemporary and traditional Afro-Cuban styles and containing beautiful melodies and sizzling grooves.
