German musicologist and critic. Born July 3, 1942 in Osek near Teplice, former Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, presently Czech Republic. He is professor in Frankfurt am Main and in Marburg. Focus of his scholarly interest and his publications is the music of the 19th and 20th centuries, including jazz and popular forms.
