South African four piece punk/rock band Wonderboom (Afrikaans for "wonder tree") was basically created out of the merger of The Electric Petals and Eight Legged Groove Machine in 1997. Later that year they were already opening for Simple Minds (as "The Electric Petal Groove Machine"), changed their temporary name to "Wonderboom" (after spotting a roadsign leading to a town near Kroonstad in the FreeState) and released their first and self-financed album, "Is it?", in 1998. Their "All The Hits?" greatest-hits album was released in 2005.
