The dog "Wum" is a cartoon character invented by Loriot, who also wrote and sung the lyrics for "Wum's Gesang" (Wum's Chant). Wum was brought into prominence by a German TV show called "Drei mal Neun", later "Der Große Preis". "Ich wünsch mir 'ne kleine Miezekatze" headed the German Single charts for nine weeks in 1972.
