Senegalese singer of Serer descent. Born 1932 in Somb, a town in the West of the country, she was often deemed a national icon of Senegal and was the official griot of former president Léopold Sédar Senghor (1906-2001). After having suffered from a severe disease for several years, Yandé Codou Sène eventually died on July 15, 2010.
