Yang Yan was born in Taiwan in 1951. She attended Taipei High School, and in 1969 she became the singing contest champion of Taiwan Cheng Sheng Broadcasting Company with songs such as "moonlight on the river." By the late 70s she had become one of her country's most famous and loved singers, and rated one of the top ten singers in the Far East. You will often find her LPs on ebay under the name Taiwan Yang Yan. "Apple Blossom", "Chinatrust", "Carmen", and "Shangri-La were among her most popular songs, but her most celebrated song became "Wang Zhaojun". This has become her signature song. She has one son and one daughter, and the following quote is as good a tribute to her legendary staus as any. " Superstar is almost too weak a word to describe the incredible Yang Yen.
