Musician of Jazz
Yann Pittard (b. 1983) is a French guitarist, oud performer, film composer, musician, and improviser. He began playing guitar in 1992, and started collaborating with Marc Perrone and André Minvielle after discovering free improvisation at Uzeste Musical Festival. In 2001, Yann Pittard became a laureate of Vannes Jazz Festival. He moved to Paris to study music at the C.I.M., and later spent a few years in India, discovering Bengali traditional music with dotara virtuoso Nimai Chan Baul. After returning to France, Yann Pittard studied jazz & classical orchestration at Conservatoire de Paris with Bernard Maury & Karol Beffa. Pittard met saxophonist Maki Nakano, and they started a conceptual collaborative duo Ky (7) together. In 2004, he studied oud and Egyptian classical music with Hazem Shaheen and Abdu Dagher in Cairo. Pittard organized several bands and collaborative projects, including International Oud Trio with Mustafa Said and Yuji Tsunemi, collective NoVisa featuring Plantec or Malik Mezzadri, and Noun Ya with Naïssam Jalal. Yann Pittard also played in PYN (2) trio with drummer Tatsuya Yoshida and bassist Mitsuru Nasuno, and worked with Paban das Baul, Jean-Phillippe Rykiel, Cheick Tidiane Seck and Marque Gilmore, or with Rayess Bek for contemporary electro-acoustic performances as Goodbye Schlondörff and Nathan!? Yann Pittard composed over 35 soundtracks for movies (France, Japan...).
