The Japanese pianist Yumi Sekiya initially studied at the state University of Art and Music (Geidai) in Tokyo. She then studied in the master class led by Prof. Klaus Schilde at the College of Music in Munich. She also attended master classes led by Rudolf Buchbinder and further deepened her studies with the Hamburg pianist and conductor Cord Garben. "Yumi Sekiya was appointed to an instructorship in piano accompaniment at the College o! Music and Theater in Munich in 1992 and has been a full-time faculty member in the fields of piano accompaniment and coaching at the same institution since 2010. Yumi Sekiya frequently serves as an o!!icia! piano accompanist at international competitions such as the ARD Competition in Munich as well as at international master classes in Europe and Japan. She is a much sought-after chamber musician and in this capacity has presented numerous concerts in many cities in Europe and Japan with artists such as Hariolf Schlicntig, Thomas Riebl (viola, Salzburg), Erich Hobarth (violin, Vienna), C hristoph Richter (cello, Essen), Francois Benda (clarinet, Berlin/Basel), Ingo Goritzki (oboe, Munich), Ab Koster (horn, Hamburg), Rebecca Rust (cello, Munich), and Friedrich Edelmann (bassoon, Munich)".
