Yves Storms (b. 1956) is a Belgian classical guitarist. In 1979, he graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp with the highest distinction. Storms also studied with Andrés Segovia, Leo Brouwer, John Williams (7), Julian Bream, and Oscar Ghiglia (receiving diploma di merito from the Accademia Musicale Chigiana). The musician won the first prize at the Óscar Esplá International Contest in 1977 and also received Andrés Segovia Prize from Joaquín Rodrigo in Palma de Mallorca. He had been touring in Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Austria, Netherlands, South Africa, Brazil, Canada and the United States. Yves Storms gave recitals at Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall, Cami Hall and other prestigious venues around the world. The guitarist also performed twice for the Japanese imperial court. Storms collaborated with numerous orchestras and distinguished soloists, including flutists Jean-Pierre Rampal, Marc Grauwels, Gaby Pas-Van Riet, Aldo Baerten and Carlos Bruneel, violinists Elisa Kawaguti and Lola Bobescu, guitarists Jorge Cardoso (2) and Baltazar Benitez, cellists Edmond Carlier, Luc Tooten, France Springuel and Mark Drobinsky, oboists Joris Van den Hauwe and Piet Van Bockstal, and harpsichordist Guy Penson. He also performed several times with Spiegel String Quartet, Arriaga Quartet, Rubio Quartet and Quatuor Danel. A few composers wrote solo and chamber pieces for Storms, such as Dennis Farnon, Marc Verhaegen, Jan Van Landeghem, and Willem Kersters. Apart from the performing career, Yves Storms had been lecturing and giving master classes at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent.
