Album UK 2014 on Glass Reservoir label
Electronic (Ambient, Experimental)
Steiner was contacted by the Glass Reservoir-label and asked to make an album with an ‘electro-acoustic’ premise. The resulting at or from a distance was created with mainly electric guitar and eBow, loops, laptop and field recordings. The combination of kneaded guitar harmonies and electro-magnetic waves of sound, with the added sounds of people occupying space and the hustle and bustle of daily life, ensures that the album explores many facets of a potential sound world, but remains melancholic at heart. Meanwhile, the core remains, fed by diverse, often contrasting, sources, such as routines and improvisation, nocturnal walks and city life, the progress and loss of time, swimming in the morning and impressions of Japan. There’s a longing for repetition, but even more than that, there’s an almost tangible craving for clarity and purity in surroundings causing a chronic sensory overload.
