ensemble]h[iatus

Band,
Electronic and Classical

A multidisciplinary orientated performance practice of Contemporary Music is one of the main characteristics of the french-german-italian ensemble]h[iatus, which has been founded in 2006 by the cellist Martine Altenburger and the percussionist Lê Quan Ninh. The special feature of this ensemble is that all its members are both interpreters and improvisers. In addition to this duality, they also show a widely spread creative background: in a multifaceted way, all ensemble members work in their own or collaborative projects in areas such as composition, electro-acoustic music, computer music, sound art, installation art, performance, theater, music theater, dance, multimedia, etc. All these grown potentials are reflected in the projects of the ensemble: it composes concert programmes, non-interrupted by breaks or applauses, which embrace performances of repertoire or commissioned compositions combined and alternated with improvisations by the ensemble. Performative works, such as the entire 55-piece "Laboratorium" by Vinko Globokar in 2015/2016, or the realization of text-based or graphic scores – e.g. Cornelius Cardew's "Treatise", or works by John Cage, Earl Brown and Christian Wolff – belong to the spectrum of the collectively developed and realized work. Furthermore, the ensemble pursues continuity in close collaboration with composers of younger to older generations, whose works are composed especially for the ensemble]h[iatus, like compositions by Peter Jakober, Vinko Globokar, Jennifer Walshe and Anthony Pateras. Members: Martine Altenburger (cello), Tiziana Bertoncini (violin), Fabrice Charles (trombone), Isabelle Duthoit (clarinet), Carl Ludwig Hübsch (tuba), Géraldine Keller (voice), Lê Quan Ninh (percussion), Thomas Lehn (piano, analogue synthesizer), Angelika Sheridan (flutes)
