A Contemporary Music Ensemble of Soloists, founded in 1971 and conducted by Peter Burwik The exxj ensemble xx. jahrhundert was founded by Peter Burwik in 1971 with the aim of making the music of the 20th century known and promoting that of the present. Numerous composition assignments have been and are being awarded to composers from Germany and abroad. In addition to the repertoire of the Second Viennese School, the aesthetic range of the ensemble includes works by Luciano Berio, Pierre Boulez, Morton Feldmann, Vinko Globokar, Barbara Kolb, Ernst Krenek, Emanuel Nunes, Younghi Pagh-Paan, Arvo Pärt, Steve Reich, Kaija Saariaho , Johannes Maria Staud, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Franz Koglmann.
