Singer of Electronic, Rock and Pop
Singer-songwriter and recording artist peter chauncey comes from Jackson, Mississippi, a city that has been the locus of experiences that echo in peter’s songs. As the capital of Mississippi, it was a pivotal place in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s-60s, where Freedom Riders and others found justice. “Jackson was, and continues to be, on the forefront for civil rights, not just for black people in the United States but, by extension, human rights and equal opportunities for all peoples. Many, many people died to make way for the changes that all of us are benefitting from to this day,” notes peter. As a creative center, Jackson birthed electronic music composer Milton Babbitt, as well as many blues and jazz artists, like Otis Spann and Cassandra Wilson. Jackson is also called The City of Soul, referenced in films and literature (not to mention a Johnny Cash song). All of these elements inform peter’s music. He is now based in San Jose and San Francisco, CA.
