Track 2-9 to 2-19 were recorded December 31, 1958, January 23 and February 12, 1959 in New York City. Track 1-1 to 2-8 were originally released on a double LP on Columbia (M2S 819) titled "John Cage: Music For Keyboard 1935-1948". Track 2-9 to 2-19 were originally released on a LP on Columbia Odyssey (32160302) titled "New Directions in Music 2 / Morton Feldman". This reissue was made possible by a grant from the Francis Goelet Charitable Lead Trust.
