Live At Abbey Road

Album UK 2000 on Grasmere label
Jazz (Smooth Jazz, Easy Listening)

From the sleeve notes: Laurie Holloway, a lad from Oldham, Lancashire, started to play the piano at the tender age of 4. Tuition began at 7 and by 11 he had been passed on, by his tutor, to more formal lessons. At 13 Laurie was organist and choirmaster of his local church and at 16 he was on the road as a fully fledged professional musician and today is the Music Director for the Michael Parkinson television series. Laurie's CV displays a rogues gallery of diversity. Writing, playing and being musical director for singers from Judy Garland & Liza Minelli, Dame Cleo Laine, Engelbert Humperdinck, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Mel Torme, the late Joe Williams and song writer Sammy Cahn, and more recently Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Lesley Garrett, Marion Montgomery and Elaine Paige, with whom he also appeared as musical director of "Piaf" in the West End. He had a long association with the late Stephane Grappelli including 39 radio broadcasts, albums, and public performances. Gerry Mulligan, Clark Terry, Bob Brookmeyer, John Dankworth, JJ Johnson and, good friend, composer Johnny Mercer are among the many notable jazz musicians with whom Laurie has been associated. He has been musical director for Bob Monkhouse, Ronnie Corbett, Rolf Harris, Dame Edna Everage, and Lily Savage among other notable light entertainment figures. Laurie has appeared with the LSO, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic, the Boston Pops and the Royal Opera House Orchestra as both conductor and featured pianist. He has composed long running TV themes, composed and orchestrated saxophone and clarinet quartets; pieces for flute and piano; clarinet and piano all published by Ebony Edition (UK). His two volumes of "Pop Preludes", piano tutors, are published by Novellos. He was musical director of the BBC TV "Hot Shoe Show" featuring dancers such as Wayne Sleep and other members of the Royal Ballet. Two of many TV specials in which he has been both musical director, featured artist as well as compose, were "A Dream Of Alice" and "The Dancing Princesses". He has conducted Master Class in the Art of Accompaniment in Australia as well as England and yearly hosts a seminar on behalf of the Montgomery Holloway Music Trust. Laurie has been awarded the Gold Badge of Merit by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters (BACAS) and was recently the subject of "This Is Your Life". His golf handicap remains a stable 12! Track 14, Beatles Medley includes: Norwegian Wood The Fool On The Hill The Long & Winding Road All You Need Is Love Eleanor Rigby Yesterday With A Little Help From My Friends Hey Jude
