A.k.a. Frank Zen Flesh For Frank
Minimal Frank is the solo ambient/dark ambient abstract project from Montreal's Frank Zen, which he began around 2000 after having already explored and recorded under Flesh For Frank, his more harsh noise oriented project. After having recorded dozens of pieces under Minimal Frank, it took him seven years to officially release "Wrecking Havok", his first full-length offering, which was oddly enough a very different sound approach to his usual sonic explorations. He had access to numerous unreleased demo tapes, jam sessions, out takes and other audio bloopers from the Wreck Age Recordings catalogue, which he mangled and re-processed to create his own interpretations, using almost exclusively recycled sounds. Since then he has released a few tracks on various international compilations which are usually entitled "U.C.T. #(x)" (x being whichever number he's at, in terms of compilation pieces submitted) which stands for "Untitled Compilation Track", a clever way to keep tabs as to what pieces are located on which compilation. Most of his earlier works are primarily unreleased, although he has made a double CD compilation of these to serve as a form of demo which he mails out to people who are intrigued about his project. In 2013 he released "Imaginary Soundtracks" on the Wreck Age Recordings label, his most complete and perfect collection of audio soundscapes to date.
