Monguito grew up in 1950s New York. Son of the Afro-Cuban conga player Mongo Santamaria. He was surrounded by Latin music, especially by Tito Puente's Orchestra in which his father played. Piano player, Monguito Santamaria recorded, in a Latin Soul style, a series of LPs for Fania Records from the late 60s.
