(Tracks 1 to 4, 7, 8, 10, 11) Cagli, Teatro Comunale, 29 December 2005, show “il suono di una mano sola”. (Track 8) In 2000 Giordano Montecchi for the exhibition "The sound and the wave" of Reggio Emilia imagined a tribute to Frank Zappa and thought that the Orchestra Spaziale was the right workforce to realize that idea; thus he was born the project "Orchestra Spaziale meets Zappafrank". When Jordan asked us to implement the project, I realized that it was an opportunity to deal with, as never before, the music of the man who since the early years of my musical education has always been a teacher and a point of reference. It was a great work of reflection, selection, transcription and above rewrite and a sense of discovery, because arranging other people's music is always a knowledge and in-depth process, even on what we already thought we knew well. In this way, I have tried so not much to follow in the work of the Master but to give new reading and interpretation, respecting and taking as it were possible that from my point of view was the spirit of the music of Zappa. In this I was advised and helped by a team of exceptional musicians, they have done much more than run of the arrangements; without their creative contribution and their willingness nothing would work as effectively as it seems to have been. Between 2000 and 2005 for Orchestra Spaziale there were some opportunities to replicate the show, and on some occasions we were able to do some live recording. Those recordings (all originally on two stereo tracks) today renovated, refurbished, manipulated, cut, assembled and remastered. For some songs we have been used full versions from a single concert, for other tracks it has been necessary to use different versions of concerts and, following a bit 'the criterion that the same Zappa used to package its albums, through careful work of selection, cutting, assembling, combinations, and overlapping xenocronia it come to the current final version. Finally, thanks to the tremendous work of mixing and burning Riccardo Nanni, we have achieved something unprecedented even for those already familiar with this material, which has now acquired new light and greater brilliance. The hope is that this project which so gripped and thrilled the musicians at the time involved, may be re-shared and enjoyed by those who took part, by those who listened to him then, and especially by those who will listen today for the first time. It is only dutiful for me only to thank all the musicians who have collaborated with the orchestra, of course, also those which are not included in this project but who have been involved in other contexts, and all the people who in one way or another have supported activities Orchestra Spaziale, in particular: Giordano Montecchi, Franco Fabbri, Giovanni Ottolini, Roberto "Bee" Fabbi, Stefano Roffi, Pino Saulo, Emiliano Li Castro, Stefano Scodanibbio, Gastone Mencherini and family, Giancarlo Montorsi, Officine Nonantola Musical, Mario Barral, Angelo "Agi" Catignani, all Zappateers, Alessandro Pizzin, Francesco Gentile and all employees of Debra Kadabra, Ale Sordi, Sandro Oliva, Michael Montevecchi and Antonio Cosco Container Club, Mustafa Cengic, Massimo Simonini, Andrea Tomassetti, Raymond Rocco, Claudio Lanteri, Enrico Merlin, Tobia Casadei (who was born just as the project was in full Zappafrank under construction). It 'also important to remember two people who are no longer with us but who have greatly contributed to the Orchestra Spaziale growth: one is Alfredo Impullitti, amiable person and outstanding musician who has joined with enthusiasm, creativity and dedication to the orchestra's activities and "Zappafrank" project there is a lot of his talent; the other is Mario Zanzani, among those who most believed in the potential of this orchestra, Mario is the one who with his insights and his proposals has given us the opportunity to explore new frontiers, live reckless experiences and build new musical reality.
