Proclaimed one of the earliest rock music critics, his first book "The Aesthetics of Rock" was published by the legendary Something Else Press. Along with Sandy Pearlman, he wrote lyrics for Blue Öyster Cult early in their history. Later he formed the punk band Vom (4) in New York City. In the 1990s he moved to Portland, Oregon and was the vocalist for Smegma for some years.
