A.k.a. Chris Monks Touchtone
Skew is Chris Monks' breakbeat tekno persona, inspired by the UK's illegal party scene in the early 90's. This scene was always more drug fuelled and anarchistic than the glossy commercial club scene. In producing music as Skew, the idea is to return to some of the crazy exploits of a more underground scrappy head-mashing sound and to produce the most mind melting breakbeat tekno possible. The madder wonkier music of the illegal tekno scene risks being lost after the overwhelming success of glossy commercial dance music. As such, its innovations risk being forgotten; explorations into sonic hypnotism, audio psychological brain twisting, and so on. This music was always more interested in the question of sound vs. mind rather than issues of musicality and polish. Skew is a continuation of this exploration into what psychological dance music is.
