The second herd was an American jazz orchestra, founded in October 1947 and direct successor of . The last appearance of the second herd was in November 1949 due to financial reasons. In 1950, it was followed by Woody Herman And His Third Herd. It was the third stage of the evolution of Woody Herman And His Orchestra and emphasized saxophone instrumentation.
