Many of the recordings used to compile this reference edition are early and "historical" - often coming from private collections. Digital remastering has been used to improve and re-construct the original tapes for modern playing equipment. However it was something deemed preferable to leave minor imperfections where excessive intervention in the studio would have sacrificed the natural warmth and obvious authenticity of the original performances.
